TAKE & MAKE - Free Food Table
Our weekly free food store has now been operating for well over 3 years. We have managed to set up the stall outside most weeks and have only got wet on a handful of occasions.
We have a core of regular visitors to the stall, and all say how much they appreciate what we do. We know most of them by name and it is good to share with them. At Christmas, our regular adult visitors all received a bar of Christmas Greetings Divine chocolate and the children received a chocolate angel and a copy of the Christmas story.
There are currently nine people on the rota with additional back up support from Stuart and Kath Davies. If anyone else is interested in getting involved, please send a request via our website contact page.
We have signed up to an initiative called ‘Neighbourly’ which means that our group is eligible to receive donations of any surplus/waste food from Aldi. We collect from Wesham Aldi Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday mornings.
Wesley’s Larder at Church Road continue to arrange collections of food from Tesco’s, Fareshare and other local suppliers and this is what they share with us at Kirkham and also Freckleton. We receive regular email updates from the team at Church Road which are circulated to all the volunteers. A representative recently attended a strategy meeting at Church Road to hear about some of the plans going forward and it was good to put faces to names. We hope to attend some of their monthly management meetings which will help to ensure that Kirkham’s point of view is included in future planning.
